After a tireless and soul-searching journey through the golden but godless city of Lanka, Hanuman’s quest led him to a place of heartbreaking beauty—the Ashoka Vatika. It was here, amidst blooming trees and cruel demonesses, that his mission would find its purpose. This is the story of that sacred meeting, a moment of divine connection that rekindled hope and set the stage for the triumph of Dharma.
Surrounded by her rakshasi guards, Mother Sita was lost in an ocean of grief. Their taunts echoed in her ears, and the fear of Ravana’s impending ultimatum weighed heavily on her heart. “The wicked Ravana will tear me to pieces before my Lord arrives,” she thought, her spirit trembling.
Overwhelmed, she walked towards a tree, her mind made up to end her suffering. But just as despair was about to claim her, a divine stillness washed over her. Auspicious omens appeared, and a flicker of hope, unexpected and warm, began to glow within her.
From his hidden perch on an Ashoka tree, Hanuman watched. He saw her sorrow, felt her hopelessness, and knew he had to act. But how?
He thought, “Devi Sita is on the verge of giving up her life. I must console her now. But if I appear suddenly, my vanara form might frighten her. If I speak in refined Sanskrit, she might mistake me for Ravana in disguise. I must speak in the common tongue of Ayodhya to earn her trust.”
He also weighed the risks. “If she screams, Ravana’s guards will capture me. Though I can defeat them all, a battle here would endanger Mother Sita and prevent me from delivering my message to Lord Rama. My mission would fail.”
This was not just a test of strength, but of supreme intelligence and strategic thinking. Hanuman decided on the perfect approach: he would not reveal himself directly but would first win her trust by singing the glories of her beloved husband.
Hidden among the leaves, Hanuman began to chant in a sweet, melodious voice, recounting the lineage and virtues of Lord Rama:
“There was a great king of the Ikshvaku dynasty, Dasharath, truthful and righteous. His eldest son is Shri Ram, radiant as the moon, the finest of archers. To honor his father’s promise, he came to the forest with his devoted wife, Sita, and brother, Lakshman…”
He sang of their journey, of the slaying of demons, and of Ravana’s deceitful abduction of Sita. He spoke of Rama’s friendship with Sugreeva and the great search undertaken by the vanaras. He concluded, “…and I am one of those vanaras, who has crossed the ocean to find you, just as my Lord described.”
He then fell silent.
Startled, Sita looked around, her eyes scanning the trees. She saw him—a vanara, perched on a branch. Was it a dream? An illusion of her grief-stricken mind? Fearfully, she cried out, “O Ram! O Lakshman!”
But she reasoned, “I have not slept. This cannot be a dream. And his form seems too real to be a mere illusion.” She prayed to the gods that what she was seeing was real, that his words were true.
Hanuman descended gracefully, bowed with folded hands, and asked, “O Devi, who are you? You appear to be a royal lady, grieving and calling the name of a king. Are you Sita, the wife of Lord Shri Ram?”
At the mention of her husband’s name, joy blossomed in Sita’s heart. She recounted her story, concluding with a sorrowful note: “Ravana has given me only two more months to live.”
Hanuman, his heart aching with compassion, reassured her, “O Mother! I am a messenger of Lord Shri Ram. He is safe and well, and he has sent me to find you.”
The meeting between Hanuman and Sita is one of the most emotionally powerful and spiritually significant moments in the Ramayana. To truly experience the depth of their conversation, we have brought this divine scene to life on our YouTube channel, Vibes of Divinity.

Though a glimmer of hope appeared, Sita’s mind was still clouded by suspicion. “What if you are Ravana in disguise again?” she asked, her voice trembling. To prove his identity, Hanuman began to describe Lord Rama in intimate detail—his lotus-like eyes, his moon-like face, his powerful shoulders, and his compassionate nature.
Hearing this beautiful praise, Sita’s doubts melted away. Her heart filled with joy, and she was convinced he was truly Rama’s messenger. Hanuman then presented Rama’s ring. Seeing it, Sita wept with happiness. It was a tangible piece of her husband, a solid proof of hope.
She then gave Hanuman her Chudamani (a divine head ornament), saying, “Take this to my Lord. It will remind him of me, my mother, and his father, King Dasharath. Tell him I am waiting. Tell him to come before my time runs out.”
Sita expressed her fears: “You, Garuda, and Vayu can cross this ocean. But how will Rama and his army of vanaras?”
Hanuman, in his supreme humility, replied, “Mother, the vanaras in our army are far mightier than I. I am but a humble messenger. Rest assured, they will find a way. If need be, I will carry Lord Rama and Lakshman on my own back.”
This assurance, coupled with his wisdom and unwavering devotion, finally put Sita’s heart at ease. She blessed him for a safe journey, her spirit renewed. Hanuman, his mission accomplished, bowed one last time and departed, his heart filled with the joy of service.
This sacred meeting, as described in the Sundara Kanda of the Valmiki Ramayana, is a masterclass in courage, wisdom, and faith.
Just as Hanuman’s words gave Sita the strength to endure, let us remember that our own words and actions can be a beacon of hope for someone struggling in the darkness.
Jai Shri Ram!
